I also am a big Samsung fan, had two different iPhones and hated them. The windows phone commercials makes it look really tempting but I'm on of those people who wait until somethings been out for a while before I dive in. I want others to work out the bugs before I jump on board. I want a new Samsung, the active one is great because its shatter/water proof. Alot of times the missed or dropped calls is due to the provider and they can adjust the phones. I had that problem with the iphone and when I took it into apple, they said they couldn't detect any problems. If someone didn't leave a message I'd never know they called. Unless you really need a new phone right now I'd wait for a while. You can also check the reviews from different cell phone companies from users and see what they are saying. By going to different providers you can see if a problem could be due to that provider but if it happens with more than one provider its probably the phone thats the issue. Good luck, they are so expensive and have such a short life
