this new virus encrypts all your files and you have to pay to get them back (usually $300). It comes in the usual way, as an attachment to an email. NEVER OPEN AN ATTACHMENT unless you know the sender and are expecting the attachment!!!
Virus removal software will get rid of this but your files will still be gone. UNLESS you have backed up your files online or otherwise, then you can remove the malware, and download all your files again. (thumbing your nose at the bad guys)
I have had continuous online backup (free) ever since my first laptop crashed and would not start again. I am a bit paranoid so everything is backed up in TWO places (Dropbox and Mimedia).

Thanks for the warning. Such a shame there are people with nothing better to do than mess with other's things. I wish they would find something better to do.

I never open up any attachments and I don't open anything from a strange e-mail address. Don't you have any virus protection such as Avasti ?? It is free.

My husband just got his computer back from the geek - something had corrupted his files; all we know is that he couldn't install Flash Player. The "geek" (retired naval officer!!!) said not to open those cute attachments from friends. Like the ones with cute dogs and funny clips....said they (the sender) doesn't know where it came from, just that it's cute. Said that folks in far off lands (don't wish to name country/region) just spend hours and hours working to *&$#@ us up.
...no more funny clips for us!
