We did this same exact thing in our kitchen. Cleans much easier then painted walls. Unless someone is really looking.. no one ever notices we have plexiglass behind our stove. It covers my wallpaper.. you can buy it in different thickness sizes. I have seen the mirrors also.

I have formica behind my stove, the same as my counter tops. I don't have any problem keeping it clean. I just wipe it down when I wipe the counter tops down. Although, I AM planning to put tile between my counter and cabinets and use glass inserts (the new glass tile) for accents and will use the glass insets as a backsplash. Was just at Home Depot last night and they had some very pretty glass tiles on sale.

Glass sheets. The simplest thing to do is get someone to first find the studs on either side of your stove. Measure from the top of your stove to the bottom of your microwave and from the center of stud to stud. Take that measurement to the local glass shop and have them cut a piece of safety glass. Then have someone install mirror clips (Home Depot has them for $1.79) and install the glass. It will clean easily with windex and your wall color will show through.

I have a large space behind my stove because I do not have a microwave there, we had the same problem when we built the house, we decided to try a mirror, everybody says OMG, I don't want to stand there and stare at myself while I cook! You'd be surprised, I seldom see myself, it looks like another room as it reflects the livingroom and it is so easy to clean. we repainted last month and I broke it taking it down, I felt like I was in a box while standing at the stove, sure was glad to get a new one. mine is 24X30 and only $20 at Lowe's

Thanks all! I really like the suggestions- especially the plexiglass. to get my mind off of work today (I can read posts on my phone), I thought about putting up the plexiglass (thin sheet) with either pix or even quilt designs behind it- just as something different 0 or a different spin on a backsplash...

You really keep the plastic up in your kitchen like that?

I have butcher block backsplash on all the walls from counter to cabinets. It ages and looks great even if it's old. I have changed the counter top twice and the backsplash matched every color I tried out. So buy the biggest bamboo or wood cutting board you can find and mount that behind your stove. It will add charm as well as working great.

I have the wall behind my stove that matches my counter and I hate it.
It is harder to clean than just the wall I think.

I have a back splash that I bought at Lowe's several years ago and it's mounted with four screws...you just pull out the stove and line the back splash up under the cabinet and screw it to the wall board. It's black on one side and white on the oposite side. I'm sure they still have them. I love mine because all the grease can be wiped right off and nothing gets on the wall or cabinets.
