My DH wants to build a Murphy bed in our extra room. I didn't think that was a good idea as I've only seen Murphy beds on I Love Lucy.
Yours has changed my mind.
Thanks.

Beautiful work! I like the side-drop type for any room where there are clearance issues too.
If he made the face of the bed cabinet from Luan (think quality door-skin wood layer) it's probably either Ash Luan or maybe Alder if it's a nice fine grain, or could be Birch. Although most of us can't do that kind of quality woodwork, if you really want a murphy bed, you could consider buying the hardware & using a plywood panel for the front. Once you figure out what the sheet size is, call an upholsterer, as they will give you a price to cover the wood in commercial furniture fabric (vinyl, leather, cloth), or you could try it yourself...it could be a flat wood (sheet-good)front.
Ok, you're right, not the same as this beautiful piece, but it could done with taste.

I have been looking for something like that for a basement bedroom/sewing room. That would certainly open up my floor space. That one is beautiful, looks like a piece of furniture. I have bookmarked this to show my DH. He can do it if he gets motivated. I sure hope he does. Love yours.

As far as the wood...I can't remember what he used, but it is stained Cherry.
