I've had a traumatic brain in jury, and had some nerve damge in my face, and when I blink, I don't do it fully, so there's a ridge or line, where I don't fully blink, so it's dry. I just use eye dropes, maybe 20 times a day, or whenever I think of it.

I HAVE A TBI ALSO
have never heard this mentioned before.

was on this for 2-years; that's all they will allow on that med.
didn't work long term regardless.
Oh that's too bad. Hope you can find a solution, I imagine it is very uncomfortable.
I think it's odd that it feels better with my glasses on.
right when I remove them it starts up.
somehow there is a connection of some kind.

Could it possibly be caused by eye strain? Taking you glasses off might be causing additional "strain" on your eyes. I also have dry eyes, and generally use 'natural tears' to lubricate it. Only one problem with that solution....I keep forgetting to put the drops in. As I've told DH about some of his PRN meds...it won't work if it stays isn the bottle!

I would avoid the Visine type products...to "get the red out" vessels are constricted. With repeated use, a condition called "rebound" develops...much like using nasal sprays over a long period of time. The tissues end up reacting the the absence in those preparations. The Natural tears product are lubricants...and my eye specialists recommended that for me.

I suppose you might just have to routinely put in the 'natural tears' product...after checking with your doctor first. I always recommend talking with your medical provider before undertaking anything OTC long term.
..... and yes, I am a retired RN from the very old school.

My daughter's doctor told her to take flaxseed oil for dry eyes.

I had cataracts taken care of then had secondary cataracts removed too. Now I have terrible dry eye problems that I never had before. I tried the Restasis and it has not helped either. Strange

I forgot to mention this, but about a couple of weeks ago, during the day, my eyes felt much better, moist even. I guess my bad blinking nerve finaaly get reconnected, so now I guess I'm an adequate blinker!
When I awake in the am is still the time when I notice the most drying. I must not close my eyes fully when I sleep, so just add a drop of artificial tears to each eye when I get up, and I'm good the rest of the day

My main problem is that I'm allergic to most eye drops. It's suspected to be the preservatives used, and started when I tried to wear contacts years and years ago. I've even used the ones said to be good for allergies. Nope, can't use them. The one that I can use is the cheap Meijer brand believe it or not, so that's what I bye.

We are in Western Washington, so same climate about, as yours. I get dry lips just as soon as it starts raining. I's say to try just pounding down the water, as much as you can stand and see if that helps before you start taking medication and using eye drops. After all, you might not need them if you just drink more water.

I went to nursing school, but am not currently a nurse. As you can probably tell, I do not take any prescriptions unless you force me. I lean toward natural medicine.

I hope this helps,
Linda
