I live in Southern CA where a 26 mile commute to work takes two hours, not to mention having to do errands, etc. You know when you have been in the car too long when you get to work, sit in your chair, and reach for the seat belt!! Got to get more sleep...

A caterer who is also a friend went to pick up the wedding cake for my daughter's wedding. It was a hot April day! The cake was placed in the trunk of her car; she also laid her purse in the trunk. Well, she (or somebody else) closed the trunk lid. Then she realized that her car keys were in her purse in the locked car in the hot sun!
She tried to call her DH but no luck. Various men tried to remove the car's back seat as the sun got hotter. Then a passer-by, who had the same model car as hers, tried his key. Voila! His key unlocked her trunk.
(Makes you wonder how safe locked cars are!)

I have only locked my keys in the truck just once. But It wasn't really a problem because it was a old 1987 truck. The back window didn't latch, so I opened it, reached down behind the seat for the tire iron I always keep there, and used it to reach & pull the keys out of the ignition. No problem right? I was stopped four blocks later by the the cops because a guy in the parking lot who watched me break into my own truck, reported that I stole it. Since my license & registration matched, the cop let me go.

It was hot so I left the truck running with AC when DD and I got out to look at a house for sale. We were going to take a quick look in the windows. Her little dog was in the front seat and she jumped up to look out the window and hit the door lock. All the doors locked. Ugh! I called DH and he said he had a spare key in a magnetic box under the truck. Of course I parked right over a deep mud hole. DD had to crawl under the truck (her dog) and find the box by feel. It was dark. Now we have on star and can get the doors opened with a phone call. I do keep a spare door opening key in a magnetic box under my fender because I have locked my phone in the car and no one around to borrow a phone. Murphy Law always comes into play for me.

Went to Pittsburgh for the Grand Prix and car shows. Big city! Carefully made sure the car was securely locked before boarding a shuttle. Wonderful day. Shuttled back to the securely locked car-------which we had left with the windows wide open.
