Admittedly biased because my husband worked for ABC Sports and had some connection with several Olympics broadcasts, we both felt the announcers weren't prepared - didn't name a lot of the athletes etc. - and the coverage was only okay. I was able to go to two Olympics with him and it's a thrill you can't explain to actually be there. Standing for a national anthem of the winner, even if it isn't the USA, is a privilege and a special moment.

I too had trouble not only with the closing but opening ceremony. Seemed disjointed without continuity. I'm spoiled living in Calif. with the Hollywood influence. The music sounded warbly. I don't think it was NBC's fault, but the producers of the program. Just seemed off a bit to me. Didn't impress.

I'm not sure what was going on this time. It seemed to me that a LOT of events were not covered at all and that was disappointing in itself. I use to look forward to watching this but this year it didn't even come close to keeping my attention.
I missed the opening ceremony and as far as the closing, I just didn't get it at all. Maybe it's a culture thing or the fact that I didn't know most of the music (I never was a big music fan on any level) or what ever they were trying to express or use in it? It just didn't make sense to me.

Oh dear, what a shame you have all had such a terrible viewing experience! All I can say is that the BBC coverage here in the UK was brilliant. Admitedly we were allowed to see the whole thing (unlike you in the US): there was quite a lot of symbolism within the tableaux, which was probably lost with another network coverage.
Both the opening and closing ceremonies were terrific, but it was such a shame that NBC particularly cut some of the coverage, making it appear disjointed.

I enjoyed the opening. Unfortunately I missed some events I would have like to have seen. But as for the closing just my feelings: it was the worse I had ever endure oops seen. Didn't know when they would run out of old rockers, & going back as far as the mod stuff, Oh brother.
