I've gotten some coloring books from Dover Publications, they have all kinds. And I've used both colored pencils, (don't remember where I got them) and regular Crayons (got the large box).

Google coloring books for adults, etc. You can print out some fabulous designs. Pick subjects she will be sure to like.
Make your own personalized book.

I have done several of these, I find it very relaxing. I use prismacolor pencils. They really are the best. expensive but worth it. Use a coupon at Aaron brothers to offset the cost. There are also several coloring books for adults on the net. Big selection

I agree with all of the above, and what a pleasant surprise for your friend. She will love having something to do to pass the time. Crossword puzzles etc. only go so far

I have a few of them and enjoy them as a break from other "chores." I've taken elements of some pictures and used them for embroidery designs. Here is a source (my favorite place to browse for books) with a variety of adult coloring books: http://www.powells.com/subjects/arts...=ColoringBooks

I also use colored pencils. There are also dot-to-dot books for adults......numbers goes up into the 100's.....even a few in the 1,000! I always loved dot-to-dot books and still find these fun and relaxing. The color books are great!! Super idea for someone in the hospital or unable to be up and about.

You can buy TWISTABLES...by Crayola that will handle very small spaces. Like a crayon, but they twist up like a colored pencil, only no sharpener needed. Wonderful product for coloring.

Actually, in the article I read on this, the author said she used Prisma colors. These are great colored pencils that I used to buy for our son when he was younger.

Prisma colors are the best in my opinion. I use them in college and still have a few. Just be sure to have a good sharpener. The standard pencil sharpener will shred the "lead". There should be one near them in the hobby stores.

Print out several of each design - it's amazing how different the same design looks when done in different colors.
