Default Cost at an Etsy shop?

Question just popped up as I was directed to one from Pinterest and there was a pattern offered as a download for $10.00. I can see a hard copy for that price...paper, print, mail, but don't understand the same price for an electronic download of something. I must be missing somehing in the cost of that process. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks

You're not paying for the cost of printing a pattern and mailing it. You're paying for the designer's work in producing and marketing it.

hmm, may not be able to afford things on Esty. tried to buy a candle from a small candle maker, got one at a store and loved it, vanilla and pear. but online the candle is $11.00 plus $8.00 shipping. I know people need to make money but it's too rich for my blood.

I was able to buy fabric of an older line(5 yrs?) from an Etsy store for less than $4/yd. I was super pleased! Communication was good and shipping was reasonably quick.

So, then perhaps, if it were a hard copy pattern it would cost more?

If you look at this you will see hidden fees passed on to the buyer. They usually charge what it cost them and add to and pass it on.

When downloading patterns I rarely see a difference in price from the printed copy to the digital copy

I totally agree with you. The download is a mouse click on a file...no overhead.

I only buy paper patterns, usually they are the same price. I also go straight to designer's website to see what they sell them for and if shipping is free. Hawthorne Threads ships patterns for free. If I am buying fabric I will add a pattern that I want from that on-line seller.
