I used a sheet of plastic canvas, cut it to whatever size, used yarn, any color, did a whip stitch around sides, used excess yarn on top for hanging. Poof done.
Earrings fit side by side, long dangles on bottom. Make as many as you want.

I used to have a jewelry keeper that hung on my bathroom door. It was about 12" x 24". Don't remember what the back side was, but the front was heavy weight clear plastic with bias tape at the top of the pockets and around the outer edges. There were rows of pockets made much like a shoe keeper, only about 3" square. Worked great! Oh and it could be rolled up for travel.
I've been using the little organza bags lately, but am thinking about making one like I described above that was destroyed when our house burned in 2000.

I have used the plastic mesh (people used to pattern with yarn for Kleenex boxes )hang them on my bedroom mirror with ribbon. Then I found a hanging double sided jewelry container made from vinyl in pretty colors . It is divided into individual open pockets of different size. Saw a new one yesterday with deals for rings and hanging necklaces. I got my first one at Tuesday Morning for about $12.00.

I used an embroidery hoop to hold a piece of pretty lace taut, then found an old brooch, some craft accents (gold leaves, satin roses, etc.) and glued them on to create a decorative 'top' for the hoop. I put a nail in the wall to hang the decorated hoop. This works great for hanging earrings with wires and it's very pretty. For post earrings, I take the hoop off the wall; easy as the hoop is very lightweight to lift off and replace.
