My real name is Patrice. I loved that it was different but every teacher would look at the name and end up calling me Patricia. It always upset me.

I HATED my name...Edwina. Not too many people around with a name like that. I used my middle name when I was growing up.

True story... I wasn't christened until I was 9 months old and the minister looked at the name my mom had written down and said NO WAY. That's a nickname not a REAL name. By this time I was used to being called Lori and they wanted to keep it. SO he said it could be lengthened to something more appropriate like Loriann, Lorilynn... but my mother in all her infinite wonder and wisdom stuck "ta" on my name, so officially I was Lorita (rhymes with Lolita). Can we please have a chorus of laughter here!?
NO ONE could pronounce it and I was always Lori to everyone who knew me anyway! So when I was married my husband helped me go through the process of changing it to Lori. Cost all of 25.00 and we had to fill out a few forms! I highly recommend it!

I love that name!! My little cousin was/is named Carla Patrice and I always thought Patrice was such a beautiful name. Still do :D
My name was pretty common in school. Of course I hated it. Don't know too many ppl who liked their names, hair color, etc. I got to like it all as I got older. Who cares?? Besides, my Dad named me and that made it special !! My middle name is for my Italian grandmother, Margharita, his Mother, and that makes me happy too!!

I was also named Mary and went to a Catholic school. My parents who named me Mary always called me by my middle name, Renee. Why? Who knows. EVERY year at school, on the first day, I'd have to explain to the teacher that yes, my first name is Mary but I go by Renee.

Fast forward to adulthood. I married a Smith. So now my driver's license says Mary Smith. Talk about dull. When I used to have to fly to New York frequently on business, I'd always be pulled aside as being on the 'no fly' list. I always told them, if I were a terrorist I would certainly come up with something more exciting than Mary Smith. The problem was, the sign at the gate showing a person holding their ID - the name on that ID was Mary Smith.

I was Peggy as a child, which I hated. I was named after my grandmother, Margaret. And she was an Irish servant. Her employers called her Maggie, without bothering to ask what she wanted to be called (Margy) and she really hated it, because it was a 'servant name', so she made sure I was Peggy.

I changed to Maggie when I went to college- I don't think there are too many associations with that name now. Most of my friends call me Mags, and my DH calls me magdelaina, when he's feeling romantic.

Margaret Mary is a total nun name, and I was frequently called "Sister Margaret Mary".

I actually loved my name...Betty Jean...growing up. In a small, West Texas town, everyone knew me and I was happy. When I went to college, profs et al called me Betty. Went to work, bosses and coworkers called me Betty. I hated that. So, I started going by BJ, which I like. My family, in-laws, and old friends all still call me Betty Jean.
