I think they were called 'milk disc bed dolls. I remember seeing one in my Aunt June's house when I was little. I doubt there are any kits left, but someone might have a pattern. I have a friend or two who collect vintage patterns for dolls. I'll see what I can find out.

DebraK has the link for the right pattern. If you need an 8" doll, I think I probably have one or two.

E-How.com has all the directions for making these. I also used to have one of those when I was little..Brings back memories..maybe I should get busy and make one for each of my grandaughters.

http://crafterscommunity.com/forum/d...lter-doll.html Here's the directions, you need rapid flow milk filters. You might try a farm supply store especially if you live near Amish country. They might have them. They'd probably only be in white but you could use different colored yarn.

You can also find them on ebay. I don't think they'd be that hard to dye, just dip them in some ritz dye, rinse them out and lay them out on an old towel to dry. Maybe not.

My aunt had a beautiful doll like this made of circles cut from handi-wipes.

How big in diameter are the circles? Couldn't you use fabtic with pellon ironed on the back?
