No clue, but it sure looks cute. Can you hang it up? Put change in?

Looks like it could either hold letters or a newspaper. Cool looking!

I'm not sure as to it's use, but it is very similar to the cast iron dog in my son's backyard. I think they are adorable :D :D :D His is 3' tall and very realistic looking too.

Possibly to sit on a counter with business cards in? I can't tell the size of it but thats what I would use it for. (if I had business cards)

He is so cute!!! Love it!

Maybe it is one of those things that sits on a dresser and holds a mans wallet, watch, change and what ever else is in his pocket.

My grandparents had something similar they used to hold long fireplace matches on the hearth. I have no idea if that is what it is really for, though.

Depending on the size, I vote for the match holder idea, or if large enough, I would suggest perhaps a log holder....to set beside the fireplace.

Maybe a more "manly" card holder for a batchelor?

What a wonderful dog! I thought it might be a calling card holder.
My dad has a castiron dog that was a doorstop in his home growing up. But that one is the entire dog.

I hope you can find out what it was for.
