Silly question - How do you refer to a cat or a dog besides "cat" or "dog"?
In my family:
Cats were/are: felinis, puddies, catlets, meows
Dogs: furface, puppy, doglet
Do you - or your family members - call them "silly" names? (besides their "assigned" name such as "Her Royal Majesty, the Princess Cat")

The cat, and the dog. If I am calling them to me/for food/ or issue a command, then I call them by their name. Needless to say, it is practically impossible to issue a command to the cat, other than a sharp shout if he goes near the bird table.

My German Shepherd is: Baby Girl and my Malamutt (1/2 malamute, 1/2 huskie...all attitude) is Meathead or Baby Meathead (she is soooooooo stubborn!) If not using their nicknames, they are Chienne and Molly.
Dogs are dogs or puppies (sometimes pups), cats are cats or kittens (sometimes kitties).

Right now we have grandpuppies. The two that we live closer to and see regularly I call them "the pupsters" and Mr Stitchnripper says to them when he sees them "how are my babies!" In that high voice and they love it. The other one loves far away and his name is Wilson but we call him Wilsie.

At the moment we are petless by choice. But we do wrangle the 'Grandpuppy' on occasion. She can be quite aggressive in certain situations and it is easier to let Nana and Grandpa have her than trying to find a kennel that would take her. Our cats all had pet names as well as their own. It all depended on the situation. They were the sweetest boys--Chester my Polar Bear (and my avatar) and The Flash my Black Bear. Our dog, a border/some-type-spaniel cross, was usually referred to a Miss Molly or Molly Dear or sometimes as "Good Golly Miss Molly"!! The only time I got coddled was when I would be sitting with both cats in my lap/on my legs, and needed something. Didn't want to disturb the babies
