just because you "CAN" does not mean you should! It is not "OK" to publish someone else's pictures without their consent! Just imagine all your grandbabies pix ending up on a kiddy porn site! It is no different with dogs, cats, quilts, your sewing room, etc!

Yes I Pinterest. I won't repin any pin that doesn't go back to the original source though. I don't pin anything from the board though.

Anyone posting personal pictures on the internet should realize the pictures can be copied. There are too many programs that will overide any blocks. Besides all the pics pinned on Pinterest lead right back to the original source and the more traffic the more ads, the more revenue, the more fans the more followers, the more likes. Most bloggers want all the followers they can get. That leads to revenue when a blog gets so many followers.
All social sites that many use have privacy safeguards that will only show pictures to people you give permission to view (but then they can repost if they want, so don't post any pics you don't want to be circulated by grandma who forwards it to great aunt who posts on facebook with no privacy settings) Most don't know how to set the privacy or don't spend the time to do so.

Don't you think you are being a tad hysterical ? Comparing quilt pics to baby pics on Porn sites- not even a logical jump. Most of the pics I see of kids here or anywhere else on the internet the babies/kids are dressed ,definitely not fodder for porn sites.
If you choose not to share pics here or elsewhere that is your choice but trying to scare off others is a bit extreme.

We are all grown adults posting pictures of things we are proud of and want to share with the world - when I post here I know that there is a great chance it will be seen by more than just our members.

On Facebook I have the choice of who can see my pics and I choose according to the subject- my flower garden is public , my family pics are close friends only. I also understand that just because I choose "close friends" only, doesn't mean others won't eventually see them as the next person who tags them might chose Public as an option to view the pics.

You just have to remember when posting pics that they are truly open to the world - common sense goes a long way

sharon b, you can deny access to your address book on Pinterest.... I wouldn't sign up for anything like that either. I go in through my Facebook log-in.

I also agree, if you don't want people to figure out you patterns on their own then don't post on the net. It isn't so much the pattern (most blocks are free) it's the technique that has a copyright on it.... I know some will disagree with me on that, but that is what I feel....

The sad part is there are several re-post of the same photo......

I thought that was what Pinterest was for, a central place to "pin" things you see and like, and you can also add your own pins if you wish. I use is as a database for things I see I would like to make or remember. I would agree others that if you put a photo or recipe or something of that nature on the internet, no matter what site unless it is a private site requiring a password, it is going to be seen and possibly copied by many. I am not sure what the big deal is really, if you don't want others to see it and possibly copy or pin it, then don't put it on the internet for the world to see. I don't see much difference in Pinning something vs coping to my desktop. Actually pinning it would lead back to the source and the originator would get recognized. Personally I love Pinterest and hope it stays around awhile. Everyone has a differnet opinion, and even though we may not agree I respect your opinion too. As a newbie, I love the inspiration I get looking at all the beautiful quilts on Pinterest. And dang there are some great recipes out there!

I agree that equating this with kiddie porn is going over the edge. If you do not want your personal info (family pictures, quilts, dogs, cats, house, etc.) seen don't post them on the internet anywhere. Anywhere. Simple as that.

I pin but very little. All the pictures go back to the original source, none of which have posted a Don't Pin message.
