Love the idea of looking into the wiring in the machine, as it is a 1926 singer 66.. It's cheaper than taking him to the vet.. I was having a problem with two broken needles.. I also looked in his ears.. One looks like it has potential for an infection.. Will know in a few after I clean them out, and look inside.. I feel like screaming, as I am leaving early Fri for 1 1/2 weeks.. and am working late tomorrow..

I think the sound is hurting his ears. My granddog was here for the weekend and she has asthma and gets that like horking cough and then keeps shaking her head and her ears are flopping around and I assume it's due to allergies since she had been outside. She looks funny but I feel bad for her because you can't seem to do much for her. Maybe the Vet can help. Good luck and happy dog and sewing. Sue

Does he have problems in other "noisy" situations? What happens if you turn on a fan or the vacuum cleaner? If he does the same thing with the vacuum, I would suggest the vet. If it only happens with your sewing machine, maybe you should have the machine checked.

I was thinking the same thing as the princess. Dogs know when you have an illness, maybe he is hearing something going on in your machine. I'd have it checked out, if he has already been checked by the vet.

His ears look fine, but I'm still inclined to think that the machine has a new noise that is bothering him.. Will have someone run him over to the vet's anyway..
As for the vacuum, steam mop, or anything else that makes noise.. He attacks them.. He thinks that they are going to get him.. He's a very timid dog unless he thinks they are going to hurt us.. He's very protective..

Has anyone watched the newest dog training show called Dogs in the City. It was on last night and my dog loves the program and will watch it through to the end. I'm just hoping he doesn't pick up bad habits from the dogs the man comes to train.
I like his method better then Cesar Milan because he's very gentle with them, no rough tugs, etc. and the dogs respond very quickly.

It's not his ears then? So it must be the noise.
Is there anything at your mom's that makes a noise and something bad happened to him while it was making noise? (Bad to him, not necessarily bad to us)
What about at the vet's?
When you mentioned him attacking the vacuum, I thought of my Captain, he does the same thing when he hears the noise. We have a central vac, so the noise is in the basement, so we tend to run it when he's outside. In the winter, I try to put him in another room. However, I never coddle him or say in a whiny voice, Poor thing, big bad sweeper won't get you. Dogs take that type of behavior as meaning there is something to be afraid of, even the person I love the most is scared. Some dogs will attack it to protect the person, some will run in fear.
Just treat your sewing like you're not afraid of it, and sort of ignore him
If he's acting scared in another room, he needs a confidence booster. Learning something, whether it's sit, down, whatever, something that you can demonstrate how proud you are. Eventually, he will too.
It's funny, we keep the vacuum attachment in a closet, with other things, and whenever the door is opened, Captain gets worried.
