Loved your story. Did your husband teach? I am a retired teacher from Rapid City, SD. Loved it! Have you ever had the opportunity to return to the states. Would love to visit your lovely country.

Thanks again. DH was making his post phd studies there and the last couple of days I was thinking a lot about that time because of this post.
It is almost 25 years ago and as everyone tends to glorify old times I was specialy hard thinking of unpleasant memories...........I cant come up with one single one!
Ones I got stares because I was the only one not getting up for the national anthem. I tried to stand it for a while and then struggled to my feed, raising my very pregnant belly into sight and the expression in the faces of the people changed to a mild smile.
Of course not everything was just great as it isnt in any country of the world. Back then crack was "new" and we saw some very scary addicts in San Francisco.
Very depressing was also the situation down south for the people where the big oil companies had closed down their plants. The puplic places were in bad shape and the people where sitting on mortages, x-times the value of their homes. And still the hospitality was tremendous.
I think it is a very big blessing for everyone who is able to travel and meet with people from other countries and cultures. It sure limits the space for preconceptions.
Thanks to www it is possible to "travel" at home these days and unless you would like to chat with someone from maybe North Korea, you can meet people from around the world.

Thank you for those lovely words. Sure wish you could visit us again, you'd still find marvelous people.
And of course this is a marvelous country...you don't see anyone risking their lives to get into any other country, do you? Or am I out of step with the world?
