A strip of painter's tape is a good reinforcement at the bottom also. This also allows you to then use a hole punch.

I put my embroidery thread in the racks of drawers men use in thier garages. I have a 60 unit one hanging on the wall of my sewing room. I make a small white card, that will stand up in the end of the drawer and write the # of each color I have in it. It`s eye level on the wall and looks O.K. in my work room.
