Just got this from a family member who is with a police department.
Warning...do NOT share so many pictures online, anyone can find you that way today.

Just a week or so ago I found a lady's picture on my FaceBook, but had never met her but had written to her on another health forum. She had never sent me a picture, so FaceBook had been able to access my account to get her picture from one of HER accounts.

anytime you "allow" access through the various Apps, you are also allowing them to get all your information, such as your friends, your pictures, your email etc.

I have all my setting changed and I don't use any of the cutesy apps (farmville, pokes, blitz, etc....)

Well... this isn't just an issue with Facebook... it sounds from the news clip that it affects many other sites as well when you use particular cameras :(

My camera is not GPS encoded (it's too old!)...and I don't use a cell phone other than to make a telephone call, so I hope I'm safe.

Facebook is so scary, people share way too much information, and everyone can read it. I have an account but I have my wall up, except for friends and even then I don't put much out there.
What ever happened to calling someone or meeting for coffee to keep up to date on happenings in our lives. (Old fashion, huh!)

My sisters and I mostly use it to share pictures of family with each other - we all live in different states - so it's covenient to see the nieces and nephews photos online....but I agree...people want to share way too much these days.

There are steps that you can take to make sure your privacy is protected. I am an ex police officer (had to medically retired in 2000). On Facebook, you have to set each app to a certain setting. For instance, my pictures - some can be viewed by "friends" only, some can be viewed by "friends of friends" (this one I use for my items I have for sale). Some no one can see other than myself. I also have what I call my "gamers". They have no access to anything other than my name (I have old friends from high school find me). I also have my privacy settings so that only friends can see what I or other friends have posted.

Then on my cell phone--When I do take a picture with it, it's not anything that I put on the internet or send through texts. I also don't have the GPS activated.

My digital camera, I don't have a GPS on it.

You really have to know how to set up a page on FB, My Space, or any of those type pages.

NO social networking from this computer!! You guys are the closest I get to socializing on line. As a matter of fact, other than email, you are the ONLY back and forth contact :-D

I have no pics posted on my FB account and now I see that I probably won't. I do get pics from others but they all have been on my "friends" list. I have been deleting a lot of "personal" info that was originially put in when the account was set up. I really don't use FB much. I am here on the QB much too often. And if I am not here, I am either sewing or at work. I am not impressed with FB. Thank you for the warning.

Thanks for the info. People need to be very careful on what they do put up on the internet because it is for all to see. :)

If you have your fb profile set not to show up in search, people can still find your account by searching for your friends. Stalking seems to be everyone's fave hobby these days. Remember when voyeur was a dirty word? Now, it's a way of life. Enjoy! :0D

I knew to be careful because of the content of the picture impacting one's reputation but I had no idea about the geotag. scary

Did you hear abt the idiot in AZ that put both kids pics online, told their names, what their address is, AND what school they attend? Then said, "well if someone wants to kidnap them, they're going to anyway". Noooo, not if they don't know all the info you just gave them!
