I get mine in K-Mart and other stores that you don't have I guess. I need to buy the fitted sheets more regularly as well, so I don't think you are Robinson Crusoe.

I buy individual sheets, fitted and flat, at WalMart, their Mainstays brand. These work just fine for me and I don't find them rough or coarse. I buy solid colored sheets, the make my own pillowcases out of pretty fabrics. I have about four colors of sheets, but lots more pillowcases that I can mix and match with the sheets.

I get from The Company Store!
The regular 200 thread count all
cotton are sturdy and comfortable,
wash very well and come in fabulous
colors. I use them in quilts also
and they make wonderful, strong
quilt bindings.
I watch for the sales and then buy.

Bed Bath and Beyond sells individual sheets as well as sets.
I use flat sheets for quilt backs.

I think somewhere there is instructions on making your own sheets, if you want to go the extra mile. I know I've seen crib sheets but sorry I don't have the link.
