thanks :)

I'm in Portland, OR and will be going to the PO soon to mail some flat rate boxes...and one envelope...I'll have to remember to ask...although my envelope just contains coupons for a friend in Kentucky....
Thanks for the heads up!

I thought that flat meant the price not the shape?

I just received my fabric in one today so some are taking them.
I guess I would register a complaint...I guess it depends where you live.

I guess it depends on where you go. I've sent a tube of toothpaste in one before. There is a PO in our local grocery store and the person who works there is a quilter. She loves to help me! :)

I don't worry about taping the envelopes though because that adhesive is so strong! I just make sure the items inside are protected if necessary.

I retired from the post office 1 year ago and we were told just like the comercials "if it fits, it ships". I will be checking this out.

I live in northern WA state, and they wouldn't let me send fabric in the flat rate envelopes any more either, because of bulging. They also showed me that flat rate envelopes have to be flat, and not have an uneven shape. I was always told before that if it fits, it ships. Sending packages or bulky envelopes through the mail has become very expensive!

And they wonder why they're losing money! Duh!

I find it amazing how the post offices differ in their 'regulations' .. I have no problems with bulging, wonky, heavy flat rate envelopes at my post office and believe you me, Ive send some doozies that were ready to pop at any given moment. And it still shipped!!!! All she said was 'if it fits, it ships!' I cant complain here all my stuff goes out.. However my postmaster, She recommends you ask for your local postmaster and bring it to their attention..
