Did you ask about the small flat rate box?
That's sill the same rate as the envelope as far as I know.

still the same rate they just hold a lot less. Especially when we are talking about fabric. They cannot bulge at all and must shut completely

Can you post a link to where it actually says that on the USPS.com site? Because I've never, ever found it.

They keep quoting it but I haven't seen it in the DMM.

Also, the new Flat Rate BUBBLE envelopes are a bit bigger than the FRE paper ones. I don't know if they're cracking down on those as well since it's not made for documents.
They cost the same.

Using Tape on Envelopes/Boxes

. Can tape be used to close, reinforce or enlarge Flat Rate envelopes / boxes?



When mailing using the Priority Mail® service, Express Mail® service or Priority Mail International® flat rate, the contents of the flat rate envelope must be confined within the envelope with the adhesive provided on the flap as the primary means of closure. Contents must also be confined within the box secured with tape.

o The flap must have the ability to close and adhere to the envelope.
o Tape may be applied to reinforce the flap of the envelope and to secure the box.
o The design /shape of the envelope or the box may not enlarged by any means.

Note: Turning a flat envelope into a small "box" shape by including bulky items is a method of enlarging the dimensions and is not an acceptable use of the Flat Rate envelopes.

· Mail was returned to me because there was tape on the stamp. Why?

When stamps are covered, the canceling machines cannot imprint directly on the stamp; therefore, they are not acceptable for mailing. The machines must also be able to read the ultra-violet ink on stamps to detect them on the envelope. If your stamp had only been partially covered, perhaps at the top and bottom, the stamp may have been acceptable for processing.

· Tape on shipping label barcodes – is it okay?

No. Barcodes with tape over them cannot be scanned by our equipment.

Priority Mail prices are determined by how the mailpiece is prepared for mailing. Packages can be mailed in Flat Rate Envelopes and Flat Rate Boxes for a single price not dependent on the mailpiece’s weight or destination. To increase the convenience of using Priority Mail, all domestic USPS-produced Priority Mail envelopes smaller than 12.5” x 9.5” are priced the same as the regular Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope, whether or not the envelopes include the wording “Flat Rate Envelope.”

I want to mail one to Canada was told NO not for $$4.95 is 27.??for International and WAS flat( just a pattern) Flat rate- states only- but envelope said {For Domestic and International Use} she just shrugged shoulders so am waiting for plain manila envelope and will go again. Told me if put in a legal letter would be .79 cents but would need a few and didn't want to fold pattern pieces.

The packages of fabric I order usually come in the plastic gray envelope type package. Connecting Threads uses that type of envelope. As much free shipping that they do it must be the most economical way to mail.
