I inquired at my PO - two things, the cost that went from $4.90 to $4.95, and the clerk stated that if it fits, it ships, as long as I don't have to use extra tape to reinforce. I fold the blocks individually so for the most part, they are not bulging. Now, the flat rate BOX went from $4.95 to %5.20, and I bet that I could still get two sets of 12 blocks in that.

With the financial trouble the PO is in, I am surprised they are being so stingy! I would tell them clearly it is UPS for me from now on!

mine are aprox 2-3 inches thick..I was told if it fits it ships.. BUT it has to close on its own BEFORE you secure it with packing tape..

My bad! I was looking at a regular, plain, large envelope, used for First class postage - NOT a Flat Rate envelope.

I did see where it says if it fits it ships and it can weigh up to 4 pounds for a F.R envelope. I would print the information right off the website, take it to the post office and ask them to show your their rule book. Speak to the Post Master. I do get tired of rules not being applied uniformly.

Those should ship; I can't see a problem with them. If the envelopes are to only be used for documents, then they should print that on them and update their website.

I am a Postmaster and if your post office clerk is telling you that you can only ship documents in the flat rate envelopes then I would ask to talk with the Postmaster. There is no such rule. As long as your envelope can seal on its own before you tape it then it costs the flat rate of 4.95. It can be lumpy, lopsided, whatever, as long as you can close it properly and you didn't open the sides of the envelope to make it bigger. If you don't get satisfaction from the postmaster, then go to USPS.com and file a complaint and ask for it to be excalated to consumer affairs since you already spoke to the postmaster. The new padded envelopes are available on the webside also. Sorry for your bad experience, you shouldn't be treated that way.

I mailed a bunch of them stuffed on monday and no problem. I also shipped parcels that were less that the 10.75 and 15.00 but it is so much now. So shipping is costing more. I was shocked too. Even parcel is only a few cents less than priority. Go figure. I am glad I have a tiny post office that will work with me to figure out the new rules. Hope none of them come back. I hate changes. Honestly.

I think the prior wording was you couldn't cut or reform the envelope (or something like that).
