I see a tail extended, almost straight out from the tail head, a mare that is straining forward, as though leaning into a strong wind.

I don't know .... one thing to watch is repeated motions ... and, the amount of time between the repeats.
Her tail looked entirely different from what it looked like it did last night.
Last night, she could have just been hot and trying to cool herself a bit, but this was different .... so ... if she does it agin in the next ten minutes, then we might be in business <g>
