Default Can I brag about my baby boy for a minute?

My son started taekwondo when he just turned 4. He is now 6 and is now a first degree black belt and will be testing for his 2nd degree recommended Black Belt this Saturday! This past year he competed in the Black Belt 8 and Under, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree division. He was usually the youngest and smallest in his ring. Well, he finished the year off right! He is now the new 2013 State Champion for the state of Florida in Creative Weapons, Creative Forms and Traditional Weapons. We are so proud of him. He is also going to be competing in these same events at the Tournament of Champions in Little Rock, AR in July. He will be competing for World Champion WooHoo

I just wanted to share. Thanks for looking

He is absolutely adorable!! And clearly extremely talented too! But kudos to you also because i know that you have made many sacrifices so that your child can excel at what he loves.....Lessons, competitions, travel expenses, time devoted to his love/talent, ect ect! He is a lucky little boy to have you as his parent!!!! Congrats!!!!

Thank you everyone!

Auntevie, you are so correct. He does love karate. He has had to sacrifice and us too. We travelled more last year then we have ever done lol. And I think I have a bit more gray hair over the stress of it all lol But it was so worth it. Now that he received his State uniform, he is more determined now to make World Champion. :-)

Jan, exactly why we put him in taekwondo! I was bullied as a child and didnt have the self confifence to tell anyone. My son is so confident right now that I hope he wont be a target for a bully like I was.

Tell him congratulations - that's a lot of hard work.

My oldest was a straight A student and got picked on quite a bit. We put him in Tae kwon do and he excelled in it. It's not just about fighting. It gives them confidence. And teaches them that they don't need to fight - that they can walk away. But the skill is there when they need it. He has not been in a "real" fight since then. There was one kid in high school that wanted to fight him and another kid stepped in. He asked the kid if he thought he could win a fight with him and this kid said "no". Well, this guy here can mop the floor with me, do you still want to take him on? For some reason, people don't expect a straight A student to know how to defend themselves.

The majority of kids who take proper martial arts lessons do not turn into bullies.
