Sometimes there is a problem - my niece was sure she was having two boys when she was carrying twins 4 years ago, I told her sometimes the sonograms are wrong, but she told me the doctor was sure and so was she. Libby came out first.... with her brother following.
My doctor told me with each pregnancy that I was carrying boys and I had two girls - so if I had a reveal party it would have been another surprise. Sometimes they are wrong and it is best to wait. (We were so thrilled the doctor was wrong - we could never agree to a boy's name.)

I too was thinking something different when I read the topic. I've been avoiding clicking on this all day and then decided what the heck.
I have 4 boys and one daughter. My first 3 sons they didn't have ultrasounds, my 4th son I knew he would be another boy. I was glad because I had wanted a girl so badly that it gave me time to adjust and be grateful for the child I had no matter what it was. Now my daughter, I had several ultra sounds and none of them would show me the gender. Even the one they did hours before inducing labor so I was shocked when I had a girl. Very happy and shocked. The nurses had kept saying will the heart rate is fast like a boy but I told her I had 4 boys and they were all different from time of conception till their birth so I wasn't listening to any of them. My daughter had ultra sounds the new 4D and 3D and you could tell on her daughters ultrasound that she looked just like her mama. She's over two now and still looks and acts like her mom. I now have a few more grandkids on the way and will be looking forward to them no matter what they are but i like knowing because it allows me to plan for them.
Whew! I'm glad this wasn't what I thought it was about in the beginning.

My DS and DIL had a reveal party when they were expecting. Only her mom and the dr. Knew. They had a few friends and family over for Chinese food. When it was time for the reveal, her mom brought out a huge fortune cookie. The fortune said-It's a boy! My son had set up Skype so that we could watch them and talk to them after. I think it is up to the parents and it can be a cute idea. There are a few expectant parents that don't want to know and that is fine too.

I know, right. Resisting temptations just isn't a strong point of mine. Its a great topic though, I had not heard of this before and I have 5 kids, 11 grandkids with two more on the way later this yr and 2 great grandkids. I guess this trend hasn't hit my area yet.

Isn't it funny the things that people used to say. My dad would say anyone make a boy but it takes a real man to knock the B_ _ _ S off. Can't you tell, he had 5 girls. I'm sure he would have had a different saying if he'd had boys. I like the stem and apple thing; that's so cute. I was raised with all girls, had 4 boys and 1 girl and for grandkids I have 6 Granddaughters, two Great grandaughters and only 3 grandsons. Isn't life funny. For yrs people used to feel sorry for me because all of my sisters had a mix of both but it took me yrs to get my girl. She's 24 and my oldest son is 42. I guess it took a lot of yrs for my apple to ripen and have my girl. Precious she is; always.

My daughter in law's mom is going to give her a traditional baby shower, but since they live 2+ hours away, we are going to give them a "Baby Que"...so we can celebrate with them...we already know they will be having a boy.. 3-d sonograms are such a wonderous thing...

I guess I just don't understand what the problem is. Sacred? The gender of the baby is supposed to stay secret?
I had 2 ultrasounds when pregnant with my first child. They told us both times it was a girl. When the baby was born, my mother-in-law told all her friends the baby had a birth defect - she had a penis! My MIL is a hoot. Poor baby is 18 now and just can't live that down.

My daughter recently went to one of these for a coworker, who actually hosted it solo for HERSELF ??? She'd made all the food, decorated and ordered the "reveal" cake.
DD said it seemed odd, there were more than 50 people there and most brought gifts, only a few didn't ... and the scheduled shower is STILL to come !! ??
I could see doing it WITH the baby shower, or just for family, but IMHO (and hers) such a big reveal party seems to be another gift grab !!
