A local group here has been doing those pillowcase dresses too. It's a wonderful project to do. There are so many worthy causes that I tend to try to do something for each I hear about. Wish I had alot more time, money and energy to do even more. Thank you to anyone who does anything like this for another human being. You are making this world a little bit better with each stitch.

Yes, that is exactly who I sew for, Little Dresses for Africa. One suggestion if you want to add something to the dresses is a bandana. A good size for most girls is twenty-two by twenty-two. The religious beliefs of some of the African girls include covering one's head while in church. At times they resort to pot holders, rags, leaves, whayever they can find.

Keep in mind that in many of the African orphanages, girls' hair is shaved very short, so bows may not stay in their hair.

Today I saw a big photo of African girls wearing the dresses we had made in the group I started called " KNOX FROX"
in a small town north east of Toronto. It was a Literacy worker from Tulsa Oklahoma who delivered the dresses and then sent photo to our Presbyterian minister who also works for the literacy council.
Some of our ladies could recognize the actual dresses. Great reward for me to see while women were sitting sewing pants .

We have an active sewing group at our church that meets once a week.....at least. It is amazing how many ways there are to help your local community as well as missions abroad when you can sew. Some of the things that we make include pillowcase dresses, school uniforms, Comfort Pillows for breast cancer patients, gift bags, lap quilts, shorts, peasant blouses, ponchos, curtains, to name a few. It's one of the most rewarding things that we do. And we have lots of fun and fellowship, too. Consider starting a group in your neighborhood. You'll be glad you did!
