The pie story brings to mind the recipe for baking a holiday ham.

While making a ham, a housewife cuts off the end before putting it in th roasting pan. Her husband questions why she cuts off the end. She replies, " because my mother always does it that way, and she learned it from my grandmother.
She calls her grandmother and asks, "Grandma what is the reason for cutting off the end of the ham before baking?"
Grandma just simply replies, " because it was too big to fit in the pan"

Kind of tells us that we are definately creatures of habit.
