LOVE IT !! thanks for the laugh ... I'm from THAT ERA too ... The "BEFORE" PC, Apple, cell phone, earbud, Ipod, Ipad and Kindle generation
Young people today truly FALL APART if their cell phone or Ipad stops working ... it's like taking a pacifier away from a baby! If they can't text or tweet or post their latest cr*p on Facebook, their ENTIRE day is ruined!!
At my office, they all seem to think that using their I-phones or posting on Facebook is PART of their WORK day!! How dare WORK infringe on their social lives!!

When I was 8 - 11 years of age we lived in Kent WA with a Hazel nut orchard behind our house. My best friend and I spent hours in the orchard creating hiding places and imagining all sorts of adventures. Now the owners would be chasing kids out or you would be afraid of undesirable characters hanging out there. Today you can't send your kids out to play like we did back in the 50's and 60's. You would be arrested for neglect. It is too bad because we had great times being Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden.

That's funny. I'm in my 60's and my family was one of the first in RI to have a TV a little round screen and a couple of channels and yes we walked to school snow & all and go out and play. It's to bad that it's hard to let kids go out to play w/o worrying someone will grab them away. I also remember trying to tape music from the radio. Ah the good old days. Sue

cell phone? My son gave me one, even pays the bill. So if they can't reach me home, they will call the cell phone. Only problem, I never turn it on. Well, they on the other hand, cant' function without one.

Add to the list - schools had WINDOWS instead of A/C. If it was hot, you sweated. Period. Buses also had windows and no A/C. I remember when air-conditioned city buses started rolling. It was always such a treat, when one of the newer buses came to our stop!

I was at the park right before school was out with my neighbor and her young grandchild. The grand wanted someone to play with so we thought when school let out the kids would come to the park. We watched the school bus drop off a street full of young kids and they all went in their homes. Not one child ever came back out and the park was right in their back yard. And the saddest thing of all was how obviously overweight most of the kids were.
My two girls had to play outside to tire themselves out, hot or cold. At bedtime they were ready for bed. How else do they get tired enough to get the hours of sleep they need?
