I watched a lady do locker hooking at a craft show one time. She used a mesh that was softer and easy to handle. I thought that would be better then the stiff canvas mesh in the kits. I wished I had asked her what it was but assumed it would be easy to find.

The canvas is very stiff when you start, but as you work with it, it becomes more flexible and easier to handle. I also use leftover cotton yarn from knitting dishcloths.

HI Jan, it would not be impossible to make a round rug in locker hooking because of turning the canvas. I am sure you can turn the canvas to form a circle. But the nature of LH depends on a square grid system and I am not sure how you would handle the edges where there would not be a complete square to hook into. In all my years, and they are many, I have never seen a round rug done in LH. There must be a reason for this. Just my thoughts.

I would make a big locker hooked square and tape off a circle, cut the circle around the tape and fold over the tape as I went. Add the rug binding around the tape.
