Don't read this if you haven't seen the movie and are easily upset (as I am) by horrible things. I just want to ask a question.

So, if you have seen the movie, please scroll down.

I got the DVD from the library and started watching it. It has some pretty brutal scenes. I had to stop watching at one point when it looked like they were going to do something horrible to a child.

The kids are at some kind of orphanage, and a man has some of them try to sing a song. One little boy apparently sings it well enough for their approval. But then the men chloroform him and lay him on a table. Then they get a spoonful of something, maybe oil, and heat it, I think. Then it looks like they're going to burn out his eye. At that point, I couldn't watch any more.

So what I want to know is, do they do something horrible to him? If so, don't tell me what it is - I'd have nightmares just from reading about it. Just say:
a) Yes, they did something terrible to that kid.
or
b) No, it's okay to turn it back on and keep watching.

Thanks.

Yup, aftermath would be too tough to take, too. Whatever made this thing a smash success? Thanks for letting me know.

At least it wasn't a rental. This library lets you borrow DVDs for free.

I need to find another movie to watch. :-(

Yes, as the others said. You find out later the results.

I seen enough of the previews for it and knew it was not one for me to watch. I have no idea why it was popular.

Yes, don't watch. The intent is to injure the children so they will make more money begging, which he then gets. It was a very sad movie to me.

It sounds like you would not like this movie. I found it very hard to watch what happens to these poor slum children. Harder still to think that this is really how they live. It was a complex movie about a part of the world that I know very little about. I don't think it should have been the award winner but it was a good movie.

Grammyp, that is exactly what I thought might be happening. I've long known that people do that kind of thing in that part of the world, but having to watch it... no.

I had taken out the movie thinking it was a rags-to-riches romance story. Maybe it was, but there was too much brutality for it to be a feel-good film for me.
