Actually, one of my Boxer pups was diagnosed with it. She had/has really bad Demodex, so we thought that was the cause, but it's not. She has now been the vet school at Ohio State and they have given us a true diagnosis. BTW she does have demodex along with this. I feel so sorry for that baby girl.

And there is NOTHING disgusting looking that a dog's nail quick totally exposed. It is a tiny, wrinkly, bleeding little stub and until some bit of nail grows over it, it bleeds with ANY touch and she cries at every touch.

The one thing that we did learn - and the new owners do keep up with her - is wearing booties. We found her some soft booties - the outside are weatherproof and have traction - with a nice, soft protective lining inside. I would put treat her feet - wash, rinse, clean and wrap - but on her booties, and she was set for the day. It took her a couple of weeks to figure out that the booties were helping and then she no longer protested or tried to take them off.

BTW - Ohio State said that it can be triggered by something as simple as a bug - or flea - bite or vaccinations. I have Lupus and FM so I guess she inherited it from me.

Poor baby. I hope the grow back so that she has no pain. The booties sound like a good idea.

I've seen the gist of the article-it was discussed a little in the support group. Someone there is hoping they let us repost it for members, but in the meantime, if you don't save them, I'd love to buy it from you.

Poor baby! That is so weird. Never heard of it. I sure hope she responds well to treatment.

Oh, that is so sad. Our dog got hurt once by the tech just trimming her nails, I cannot imagine what your dog is going through. Thank you for taking good care throughout this misery.
