I used to have a pet hedgehog, one of the neatest pets we ever had!

The main difference between hedgehogs and porcupines is their quills. Hedgehogs just have a thick hair not a true quill. While their hair is extremely tough and can be extremely prickly, they do not leave the body and enter their enemies. A porcupines quill is attached via a ball and socket and when bumped into they will dislodge and stick into whoever is close to them.

I am really sorry to correct you but I work in the education department at a zoo and I couldn't stop myself :-/
I would think that baby porcupines would be like baby skunks... discharging their defense mechanisms without control... ouch/ewww

Next question... do hedge hogs make good pets?

Don't apologise- we are fortunate to have "someone who knows" in our midst! Sounds like my daughter's dream job- have you always wanted to do that?!
