Well, that's a bit early, don't you think? Although I'm sure with all the preservatives, it will taste just fine! Have a great August!

It seems that they are pushing the seasons further and further ahead. Heaven forbid if you actually need shorts or a fan in summer, you will just have to wait until next year's snow is barely melting to buy them.

Can I just say YUCK!!!! Candy is not healthful to begin with, but if the chemicals in it preserve it for that length of time, you have to wonder whether you should be putting it in your body.

It's put out early not with the intention of it lasting that long. It's to increase revenue over last year by x amount. People will reason with themselves that they are buying it for Halloween. Lo and behold, 10 days later the family has eaten it all and shoppers have to buy more. If this happens six times (or more between now and Halloween) with half a million people, then the candy sales are successful.

Good point JennyPenny. I have always loved Halloween, and I love candy just as much as the next person. Honestly, the preservatives don't stop me from eating it. But it still seems kind of crazy that it stays edible for so long. Not to long ago, we found a package of hot dog buns at our house and I had bought them awhile back but you would never have known how old they were. It made me wonder what preservative made it stay that "fresh" and just how safe it was to be eating it.

And in regard to commercialism and putting out holiday stuff too soon; I think the mad rush is on to make way for Christmas merchandise as quickly as possible.

In June my mother required a pair of slippers. I went to shoe shops places that sold shoes and couldn't find a pair. Why? Because they only sell them just before Christmas.

Love this conversation. The sugar is the best preservative and chocolate is a vegetable because it grows on a tree. I should be all preserved for a century at least. Of course, my logic may not be all that logical since I prefer dark chocolate.

I have the habit of checking the "sell by date". It really doesn't surprise me. They can't keep Christmas from starting before Thanksgiving.
