I purchased some vintage linen sheets at a garage sale today. The lady was in her 70's and her mother had woven, sewn and ebroidered them in Italy. Are these Italian sayings? Or are they names? The monograms on the last one are the correct initials, I think. There was also a hand towel with a "G" embroidered on it.

You might need to do the Ctrl + scroll to see the letters better.

What a purchase!

Have you tried using an online translator? Just Google "Italian translation" to find some options. I'm having difficulty reading the words in the photos, but they look like names to me. Lieli? Sonni?

It looks like Sonni Dozo and Lieli Sogni. I don't speak Italian and the lady who sold them to me wasn't sure. I am guessing they are older than she first thought. If her mom made them, I think she would recognize the names. I have some things that were my grandmother's uncle's. If I didn't know who they had belonged to, I wouldn't know what the T stood for. It was Thomas, his last name. Everyone called him Uncle Tommy.

Looks like sonni means sleep and sogni means dreams. It isn't telling me what lieli or dozo means.

It is only my friend if the embroidery is complete! It is supposed to be liete sogni, not liele! It means Happy Dreams! Now if I can just figure out what she left of the other one. Who'd a thunk it. An antique UFO.

dolce is sweet... could that possibly be the start of dolce

sonni dolce is sweet dreams

Just thinking... I am trying to remember the nighttime songs that I used to hear.

it probably is sonni d'oro- golden dreams

If I remember correctly my Nonna used to tell me buono notte e sogne d'oro
