Yep, I googled this and I agree this looks like it...and would probably account for the tart taste.
I'm going to have to cut it crossways instead of vertically to see if the seeds match. It didn't look right to me when I googled. Thats what has happened every time I thought...yeah...thats it! Then I look at the seeds and nope..not it. I'll cut another one in the morning to see how the seeds look that way. For now..I'm sleepy. Night night all!

Hybrids do reproduce, but it wont be a true plant. It would "mix" with another. Last year I had a plant come up I thought was a zuchini, it was a volunteer from the year before, a mix of acorn sq. and zuchini. Ugly, but tasted okay.

It is, without doubt a lemon cucumber. Google "Lemon cucumber" and you will see pictures. I have grown these and wasn't too fond of them. They are very seedy for cukes with very little meat and a bit on the tart side sometimes leaning towards bitter.

That is what I was thinking, either a guava or passion fruit.

I cut it crosswise today and looked again. I'm almost positive that it is a lemon cucumber. Its baseball size, very little meat and tart..almost bitter. It doesn't taste too bad....its interesting to say the least..thanks for all your help..I knew ya'll would know!

It is a Plum Granny Also known as 'Queen Anne’s Pocket Melon', 'Vine Pomegranate' and 'Perfume Melon'. A very fragrant heirloom. Used in the Victorian-era as a perfume to mask body odor by carrying in pockets and purses. I used to treasure these as a child.
