It sounds as if your DD is very excited about having her own pet and eager to take on the responsability. Which makes me smile...remembering my daughter. I hope that she and Shelly have many years of happiness together and you find Shelly a new friend soon. Thanks for sharing.

I know! I love my hermit crabs. I've had them since I was little (I'm 28 now) Got the heater under the tank and some awesome cheap play sand (thank goodness for end of summer clearance sales!) Shelly is my 3rd Ecuadorian. The other two I got when I was around 6, and they died when I was 19. I love the Ecuadorians - they're so not fussy about shells, they molt and stick to the same one. :)

But I think my favorite of all was Hermie. He was HUGE.
