I would have used my handbag. It kills me to carry it what do you think it would do if I hit someone with it:

that is great; I'd use what ever I could. A sewing machine could be replaced; a life can't

In Va Beach last night there was a home invasion and a 75yr old man lived by himself; they killed him.

I say good for her. I hope she did enough damage to make him think twice about doing it again.
But my good machine No but I would grab what ever was handy.

Oh my. Not something I want to hear. I hope my brother doesn't hear about it he is a ,lock everything up 6 times over as it is.

I looked for the article on line and the only one I found that was even close was one where there was a break in but the man survived he was shot in the hand. And it was in Newport News not Va beach

That's a terrible way to abuse a sewing machine! She either picked up a Featherweight, or she's a heckofa lot stronger than I am. No way could I swing my Bernina.

You don't think at a time like that ... you just react ... and pick up whatever is handy, even if it's your sewing machine. At such a time, the adrenaline rush allows you to pick up things that normally would be too heavy.
