How to get a stuck ring off of a swollen finger
#14
Great to know! I remember years ago, while working in the hospital, every time someone had a ring that needed to come off, a certain resident doctor would be called. He did something with string, but he did it so fast, no one ever figured out what he did.

I'm a RN and I used the string method for many years - never used the safety pin though. As long as there wasn't any injury to the finger--ie, cut, smashed, etc I could always get it off with string. I would use the embroidery floss that comes on a ball or get narrow (1/8 in wide) cloth tape if working at the hospital. Saved many peoples rings from getting cut off.

Well, I eventually had mine cut off. When I got married my finger was a size 4, and over the years grew to a size 8. My fat finger had this tiny ring imbedded in it. I still have a faint marking where the ring was.

I you will thread a piece of dental floss through the ring toward the person's body, then wind it very closely together you can gently pull the threaded end of the floss and it will spin the ring right off. We had to do this for my mother before she passed. Had had that ring on for 66 years

I have seen that done and had it done on myself and I can tell you it is VERY painful. Look at the video again and notice that the ring is sitting at the joint and his finger isn't swollen. In most situations the finger is almost black. If it ever happens to me again, I will have my ring cut off.
