My maternal grandmother was German (Switzer).
There is a section of our county in SC
named for her family.

my great grandparents were born in germany and fled to russia, and then to the usa. grandfather was born in russia.
step grandmother never learned to speak english.

My mothers family lives in Ostheim vor der Rhon, my brother is in Hamburg and I was born in Bad Kissingen. Came to US in 1960 with my mom and army dad.

That's funny because I go to the butcher shop when I visit. My sister took me to a new butcher in a small village and the smell of the smoked meat is impossible to describe. They gave me a weird look - apparently I had my nose way up in the air. My sister said:"never mind her - she's visiting from America." Strangely, the employees understood. Aparently that happens a lot. lol

My Grandparents were all Germans from Russia. My husbands father and mother were both Germans from Russia. Some of the names are Unruh, Maas, Kuch, & Shulz. Many, many good stories to tell and many memories.
