I had garden for many years and loved the canning and the feeling of accomplishment. I miss it now that I can no longer manage to do it. Nothing from the grocery tastes quite as good as home canned veggies and beef.

I have a small garden but even that sometimes is hard for me t o keep up with. I pland mostly swish chard, spinach, tomatoes (of course) love them, and zuccini. Love that too.. Last year I planted squash and cabbage and a varity of other plants along with my regular plants. Love the fresh veggies.

Our house was built on a steep hillside and so we have several terraces behind it. All the good soil was scraped off and just heavy clay left. I compost always and am finally getting some perennials to grow ther. our big field down below has better soil but poor drainage. DH dug ditches to the road and it helped a bit, then we discoved a small spring. So we do what we can. I love gardening and every year in addition to all the veggies and flowers we grow about an acre of sunflowers, dry the heads and feed the birds all winter.

Can't do the vegetable garden myself because of my back but my brother has one close by. I love the FLOWERS - my Evening Primrose died out so I had to go to my niece's and get some the other night. I was digging places for them in the dark to get them in the ground before the big rain started. They're in there and hopefully they'll all take hold and GROW! Watching them open in the evening is just so neat - I love them.

How beautiful. My mother LOVED her flowers and you could pick out her house from all the others just because of the flowers.
