When I lived in Indy we dotted the places with clear nail polish. It suffocated the little buggers and stayed on until we had had a couple of baths. They stopped their squirming and making us itch.

Put some clear finger nail Polish on them. My dad is from Ga and that was what my mom use to do to us. And my dad got them all over his behind from using a leaf while we was camping. Ouch..... For a month.
