Default I took my kids (2 & 5) fishing today....

My kids and I went out this morning and bought my fishing license, a new fishing pole, and some tackle. We stopped at the bait shop to buy some worms and find out how to tie a hook on the line. We also inquired about the best places to go fishing with kids.
Turns out, there is a lake in the middle of our public park where children 14 and under can fish. So, we went there.
Within an hour or so, each one of my kids had caught 1 bluegill and 1 catfish.
We went home for lunch, and my daughter (the 5 year old) left to go to a birthday party.
My little boy, who is 2, finished all of his lunch, got up from his chair, and yelled, "ME GO MORE FISH, NOW!"
How could I resist? So, I took him out fishing again. Within another hour, he had caught 5 more catfish and 1 more bluegill. That was 8 total for him today. Pretty good for a 2 year old.
We got home, and I said, "You caught 8 fish today!" He replied, "Whoa!"
Then, I asked him, "How many fish did you catch today?" He puffed out his chest, and declared, "TEN!"

That is a great fish story! I can remember teaching both of my children how to fish. If you start them early, they will love it. You have to get them before the whole ick factor of fishing developes. I also taught them how to catch crayfish by hand.

we taught all our children to fish, my first DD was 4 when we first taught her to fish and DH cast the line into the ocean waited till he felt a fish on the line and handed her the rod and told her when she felt a tug to reall it in, well she felt the tug and ran all the way up the beach pulling that poor fish out of the water and half way up the beach, it was so funny to watch her, all of us still fish 40 years on.

True fisherman. Take a boy fishing and you have one for life.

Fishing is such a relaxing hobby I think anyway... the anticipation of what one can find on the other end of that pole is good too ! DH and family taught both daughters to fish, camp and golf at an early age. NOW the one DD has also taught her daughters to fish. The other DD has taught her husband to fish as his family never fished a day in their life.

when the kids were young we took them fishing pretty often. i had to teach my dh how since he grew up in brooklyn, ny and had never learned--not even in scouts. after josh 'caught' danny by the eyebrow. dan no longer wanted to be the fish and i think developed an empathy for them. josh continues to fish, and our daughter's early goal was to be big enough to fish, too. she's a very girly girl but has hunt wild pigs and will try anything once.
