It's a dead give away when it's posted on all the forums. I actually think the names they come up with are a little funny. But it is amazing why some feel they need to send stuff like that.

Yes, they can. I'm a mod on another board that uses this same software, and we were hit by a spambot. Close to 1000 posts in 15-20 minutes. Not only could the two of us online at the time not keep ahead of it, we were falling further behind every minute. Finally we realized that they weren't making new threads, only posting to open threads. The only way to stop it was to lock every thread on the site. Then we posted an announcement so that people would know what happened, and that if they wanted to continue conversations to open new threads.

I mod on another board and we were hit with spammers sending obscene DMs to everyone. No postings. Links to a Russian p*rn site. Dozens and dozens of new users, we were banning them as fast as they were reported. Admin finally did something that made them stop, not sure what it was. Had a lot of angry members for a while though.

I have a "ghost" PM showing up as a new message on one board. The admin deleted it before I saw it, but it still shows up as new.

The triangle icon is on the left side of the page - a red triangle with a black exclamation point in the triangle.
After clicking on that it will take you to a page where you type something in (such as "spam" "porn" "inappropriate" "please delete" or whatever)
Then you will need to click on the box "Send Report"
This will be sent to all the moderators.

This is what we're doing, but it can still take a while for it to get deleted. When I report a post I know that there are duplicates, but I don't bother with them. I figure whoever deletes the first post will see that there are others and take care of them.

The names amuse me, too. It’s about money. There’s lots to be made in the porn industry.

Thank you for all your work in getting these stopped. This a difficult process and I appreciate your efforts.

Ditto Reader1. I appreciate the moderators for the time they have to spend dealing with this SPAM. I try not to let them bother me since, in this day and age, it is to be expected from time to time. I do have to laugh at some of the names they come up with. I always think, "thanks for the warning" with most of them. Lol

Yet, another, today with same title posted in 5 areas (as previous spammers-title & areas).
