I'm late! Saturday I ran some errands, worked on a nightgown for my granddaughter, and then, made my own laundry detergent. I couldn't believe I was doing it. I just happened across a recipe online. 3 ingredients. I made it and used it and it seems to work fine. Okay for HE machines. It makes NO suds that I could detect. Recipe - grate one bar of soap (recipe said Ivory, or Fels Naptha, or homemade soap, or another laundry bar soap I saw in Albertsons, called Zote) using a cheese grater. Took me about 20 minutes. Mix it together with one cup Washing Soda and one cup 20 mule team borax. I found these in WalMart. Use 1-2 tablespoons per load. Has anyone else tried this?

stitch, i make it. started about a yr ago. wish i had have known about this when we were farming. But, you have to use extra on really dirty grimy bibs, jeans, or spagettie drulled bibs. the lst batch i passed out to every one i knew with a 1/2 gallon and the recipe. i will prob use it, as long as i am able to make it. i think your recipe is a little stronger than mine. by a 1/2 cup borax. think i will increase mine. i use about a 1/2 cup in my front loader. and sometimes, i just dumpe some on the clothes. don't measure.

sewNso - did you make the dry power or the liquid? I made the powder. We are just the two of us, so unless it is summer and we are working in the yard, laundry is easy enough. I guess I'll test out harder dirt and vary accordingly. I'm pleased so far.
