maybe you'd like some batteries to keep giving us our 'foal fixes'??
I got so much done tonight... after school I stopped for a quilting magazine because a shop an hour away is featured in it. Patchwork Plus!
Then I made up stalls, measured feed, and got the horses in because the farrier was coming. I got the pastures cleaned--halters on babies--then filled four fly traps with the attractant stuff and got them hung around the pastures. Then the farrier came for the foals first trim. He came into each stall. First was Mazie--she stood like a little trooper and let him hold her feet up for a quick check. (We've been practicing!) She tried to kick out with one back leg--and was angelic for the rest. Then Tucker.   He was sleeping--but not flat out. So the farrier checked the hooves he could see, then gently pushed him over to his side--and I scratched his belly while he got his hooves checked!   They didn't need trimming or rasping, so this was the easiest (and cheapest) farrier visit I've ever had. :D He'll come back in a month to check them again--foals need frequent checks--and I'm sure things will be more lively next time.
Then I got horses back out into this most beautiful night, dug up more Buttercups from the back pastures, picked up stalls, then took my Rosie girl for a long walk in the old soybean field and down the lane. She's always a spitfire for the first 5-10 minutes, then she settles right down.
Then I played with the foals! Both came up for scratches--so I was using both hands to keep everyone happy. Tucker nickered for me several times tonight. He's a good boy--really calming down. He and Mazie are together a lot more now. That will be a good photo shoot goal for next weekend.
I need to get the dishes done, grade a few papers, get the horses in, clean up their pastures, then I bet I'll be ready for bed.

They look kind of sad- sort of like they're wondering if all the fun is over! School time already??? I don't know a thing about horses either, but I'm amazed at how fast they are growing. Love all pics and watching them grow up.
