So I took some scraps and made several flowers to be pinned on jean jackets and purses and such and took them to church to sell with all monies going to our youth campership fund. A lady came up and asked me to please make her one in her favorite shade of blue and then she would buy it. I was just doing this out of the goodness of my heart and yes I'll probably make a "special" one just for her, but is it me or does that seem a little rude on her part?

A little but if you want to make money for the youth group then give her what she wants! She might actually give you more for the group.

I guess it would depend a lot on HOW she asked. If she did so politely and with kindness, I would not think it rude. But if she was abrasive or demanding, then yes. Hard to say for sure from your description... but in a way, it is a compliment to your handiwork!

If she said please....maybe not to pushy....just a consumer liking what she saw, but knows her colors???? Course, I wasn't there to hear her tone!

I dont think its rude to ask if you have one or could make one in a particular color. If you dont want to you could always say no. I used to try to buy one from everyone of these type of things but as the economy is getting worse, even when its a good cause I can only buy something I would use.

You could be setting yourself up for "you made her one, why can't you make me one" situation. Have a prepared statement to say so you won't be blindsided to making more and more.

Seems fair to me to make to order but be up front and say custom colors cost $----- more. This is not unreasonable since you have to get the color they want and cannot use what you have.

I actually like the idea of custom colors for a bit more money. I can't say how I'd feel b/c I didn't hear it. Pushy people don't do well with me but nice people do, within reason! :D

Perhaps something like... I'm glad you like the flower pins. This is all I planned on making for the time being. But if I make more, I'll be sure to keep your color request in mind.

I don't think it was out of line for her to ask. You never know if you don't ask. It's up to you, whether you want to honor her request or not, is up to you.
