Default A lovely moment in time....

Yesterday, at the dry cleaners while picking up my cleaning, the lovely proprietor, using broken English says...

"You done wit errands?"

ME: "Yes, you're my last stop before I head home"

HER: "oh, good....what choo do when get home"

ME: "I'll be sewing today"

HER: "What choo sewing"

ME: "I'm a quilt maker"

HER: "OH!! I make quilt. Me show you"

She then rushed to the back of the store carrying a waddled flimsy she completed and proceeded to tell me about her quilt class (1x/weekly). She didn't know the name of her pattern so I offered "chevron" and she said "Dat's it". She asked me to inspect her stitching, color choices, questions about size of quilt. It was a nice quilt using colors I wouldn't and sub-par fabric but still, it was fantastic and I praised her skill...which, she just bloomed.

Now, mind you, there is now a line that goes outside the door as we chat away about quilt making. Then, a gentlemen a couple customers behind me says

"I have a quilt my grandmother made". Then another customer joined in..

"I've always wanted to learn how to quilt" and still another...

"Can you hold up your quilt so we can all see it?" She did then everyone oooohed and aaaaaauhed....She was so sweet as she preened. I just wanted to hug her....so I did. So sweet!

Seriously, this was the most fun I have ever had at the dry cleaners. I left the store with the promise to bring in my Sylvia Bridal Sampler when done. She freaked out when she learned it was 140 blocks.

Just a lovely moment with a fellow quilter and a mob of people who valued the art and the artist.

How nifty! I'm so glad she found someone so encouraging to share with. And what an encouragement to us to realize that so many others appreciate their old family quilts. Thanks for posting... I love y'all!
