With the high price of paper diapers, does any one have a pattern or knowledge of how to make padded cloth diapers? I am trying to help a family that is very poor.

I'm hoping that my daughter, who is due in January, will want to use cloth diapers. I will bookmark this in case she decides. My daughter that had my grandson in May does not have her own Washer and dryer so they feel it would be too hard for them to use cloth diapers.

My DIL made those. They are awesome. Pampers are good but the new cloth diapers are better. She found her pattern on line and then she modified it to suit her.

I have sewn and purchased cloth diaper for my sons (3.5 years and 2) and really recommend just purchasing them. Some are quite pricy, but cheaper than disposable in the long run. Pocket diapers are my favorites, but if you are interested in prefolds, then I really like Green Mountain Diapers. By the time I purchased supplies and added my time a kit from Econobum ($50 US) was cheaper.

Most cloth diaper stores have clearance, and craigs list is great for mommas getting rid of stash.

btw i have patterns from Very Baby(like), Ottobre(runs big), New Conceptions(using the trainers) and an independent who no longer sells. My favorite place for PUL is Wazoodle.

ETA make sure the momma will use them before investing a lot. i made a bunch for SIL who wanted them, and then she only used them once and gave them away. washing them "grossed her out". I know a gift, but a HUGE time and financial investment on my part.

I want to thank all of you for your input on diapers. I never new that there were cloth diapers like Bum Genius you could buy ready to go, looking like paper diapers. Here at my age thought I had seen it all. laughing here.

Sandy,
I have a pattern that I bought from a quilting site. I'll try to remember to get it out and tell you the name. I will sell it to you for $5. I think it cost around $20 new. It has never been used. I opened it and never got around to making them. If you don't hear back from me by tomorrow evening then send me a message as I may have forgotten.
