Default Memorial Day

Please let's pause this weekend to remember the real meaning of Memorial Day. I'd like to honor Milwaukee's own Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, especially these brave Marines of Fox who gave their all:

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Al Yusufiyah, North Babil, Iraq, Sept 2004 - Mar 2005

LCpl Daniel Wyatt 31 Mar 1982 - 12 Oct 2004
Cpl Brian Prening 22 July 1980 - 13 Nov 2004
PFC Brent Vroman 6 Jan 1983 - 13 Dec 2004
LCpl Richard Warner 1 Sept 1982 - 13 Dec 2004
LCpl Travis Wichlacz 15 Dec 1982 - 5 Feb 2005

Al Habbaniyah, AlAnbar, Iraq, Jan 2008 - Aug 2008

Cpl Richard Nelson 4 Sept 1984 - 14 Apr 2008
LCpl Dean Opikna 2 Nov 1978 - 14 Apr 2008

"And when he gets to heaven, Saint Peter he will tell, "Another Marine reporting, Sir. I served my time so well."

And to all those Marines who stood shoulder to shoulder with these men, and left parts of their hearts and souls in Iraq, may you find peace.

Semper Fi, my brothers. I salute you all.

What a great suggestion JS. I wish I could put my flag out but the apt complex I live in what allow me to do that. My Dad served bravely in WWII in the South Pacific in the Marine Corp.

Thanks for your service for keeping us safe!

so thankful to the men and woman who serve and their families too. It's nice to say thank you to those who serve. when ever i see someone in uniform or wearing a baseball cap with the ships name on it. i always thank them and sometimes i have tears in my eyes being able to say thank you to them. A group of about 8 men meet at our local McD's and i always thank them and they sometimes have tears in their eyes as i shake their hand.

Thank you all. My son is one who stood shoulder to shoulder with the men of Fox Co. He came home, but a part of him was left behind and our relationship has suffered. Thirteen years later and I still cry every day. Being a Marine was tough and I'm proud of my service, but even prouder being a Marine Mom. We serve in the hope that our children won't have to, but, so far, that hasn't worked out.

My son suffers emotionally and has been in the VA Hospital psychiatric ward many times from the PTSD. No way to understand it all

I believe the quote is "When I get to Heaven, to St. Peter I will tell - 'Another Marine reporting, Sir. who spent his time in Hell.'" I remember that from the 50's in a book - "Battle Cry".

Tomorrow, I will will celebrate Memorial Day - the 30th of May. I will fly my flag half staff 'til noon for the soldiers that died and then drop it and raise it to full staff for the rest of the day for the living soldiers. Tomorrow morning I will go to Fort Snelling National Cemetery and visit my husband. God Bless America. Edie
